Questions about Hands On Greater Richmond and Volunteering

How do I become a member of Hands On Greater Richmond
Becoming a volunteer is easy! Simply register yourself by visiting the My Volunteer Page. It does not cost anything and your information will be kept private and secure.

Does it cost anything to volunteer?

Just your time and skills! Volunteering is free.

How much time do I have to commit?
It's entirely up to you! You can volunteer as much or as little as you like based on your time and interest.

What is a Team Leader (TL)?
Each project is led by regular volunteers (like you) who make all Hands On GR projects meaningful, successful and FUN! Team Leaders share project details with volunteers, guide the team onsite, build their leadership skills and make Hands On possible. Learn more

What kind of volunteer projects does Hands On Greater Richmond offer? Each year, Hands On Greater Richmond organizes and manages more than 75 team-based projects for more than 40 community service organizations. We partner with non-profits addressing community issues that impact health, youth and education, hunger and homelessness, seniors and disabled, animal welfare, the environment and more.

What if I don't find what I'm looking for on the calendar of projects?
You're in luck-we also offer a searchable database of projects and we will also send you an email describing newly posted projects twice a month.

What if I have an idea for a new project or want to become an agency partner or referral?
We are always looking for new projects and partners. If you have an idea for a project, contact us by email or phone (804-330-7400).  If you would like to learn more about becoming a partner or referral agency, visit our Partner page.

Why do you ask for my birth date when I register?
Each project has a minimum age for attendance. Also, we need to protect our younger volunteers who are under age 13. Volunteers under the age of 13 are unable to sign up through our website due to the Federal Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Can I volunteer if I am under 18 years old?

Check the age listing for each project as the minimum age varies depending on the agency and activity. All volunteers under the age of 18 must have a waiver form signed by their parent or guardian who will also attend each project with them. You will need to fax (804-330-5992) the waiver prior to the event or bring the signed form with you on the day of the project.

Volunteers under the age of 13 are unable to sign up through our website due to the Federal Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). To register your child as a volunteer, complete a waiver [insert link to waiver] and return it to our office by fax (804-330-5992) or mail. Contact us by email or phone (804-330-7400) to sign him or her up for a specific project.
